Patellar tendonitis, also known as the jumper's knee, is an inflammation of the tendon or cord of fibrous tissue that attaches a muscle to a bone. In this case the quadricep group which is composed of four different muscles are all connected to the patellar bone. The patellar bones serve as an anchor where all the muscles attach, as the muscles contract knee extension and hip flexion occurs.

Jumping athletes, including volleyball, basketball and handball athletics are amongst the group that is affected the most. Poor muscle contraction, compensations and weakness may contribute to patellar tendonitis. Research supports that by following a physical therapy protocol, pain and discomfort greatly decrease. Increasing Rom, strength and proprioception have shown to have great benefits when dealing with tendonitis.
